Catch the Rain seminar was organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra Tarn Taran, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India under the leadership of District Youth Officer Madam Jasleen Kaur at Government Senior Secondary School Ratol. Madam Jasleen Kaur, Principal of Government Senior Secondary School Ratol Sardar Sukhmandar Singh, Sardar Gurdeep Singh, Lecturer Rajinder Singh, Madam Balwinder Kaur, Sardar Maninder Singh and the head of the school were present in the programme.
The program started with welcoming all the guests and taking the water oath. Mr. Rajinder Singh gave detailed information about the Madam programme.
On this occasion, District Youth Officer Madam Jasleen Kaur while throwing light on the Catch the Rain campaign said that 71 percent of the earth is covered with water and drinking water is only 3 percent, in this 3 percent only 97.5 percent is covered with ice. Of the oceans and rivers, 1.5 is covered in ice and only 1 percent is available to us for drinking. He appealed to all the youth to use water properly, do not waste water and collect rain water and make people aware about the current water situation.
RICH Principal Gurdeep Singh told about the current water situation. He told how the ground water level is going down and now the water has gone down to 150 feet. He told that the main reason for increasing cancer patients in Punjab is the consumption of dirty water. There is a need to create awareness among panchayats and farmers to save water on this occasion in Punjab.
Karan Shabda also made aware to save water from water sanitation and supply. He told them to store rain water and use it for household chores.
On this occasion, the poster of Catch the Rain campaign was also launched as well as street play and essay competition was also organized under Catch the Rain campaign. The winners of the essay competition were awarded.
Nehru Yuva Kendra volunteers Gurinder Singh, Jagroop Singh and Harpreet Singh did a nook on water, in which ways to save water were told.
Senior Secondary School Principal Sukhmandar Singh appreciated Nehru Yuva Kendra for organizing the programme. He highlighted the growing problem of water and the ways and means to control it.
In the end, teacher Rajinder Singh thanked everyone and refreshments were given to all the participants by Nehru Yuva Kendra.
