Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran of Guru Aagad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organised Kisan Mela on “crop residue management under a project on “Promotion of agricultural mechanization and machinery for In-situ management of crop residues” at Sama Resort, Harike Tarn Taran. About 800 farmers attended the mela. The event was graced by Hon’ble. Surinderpal Kaur Bhullar wife of S. Laljit Singh Bhullar, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister, Punjab as a Chief Guest. Sh. Jagwinderjit Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Tarn Taran graced the mela as a guest of honour. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director, KVK welcomed all dignitaries and participants and apprised that KVK Tarn Taran is taking lead for educating the farmers to shun the paddy straw burning through various means of educational programmes. Speaking on the occasion Chief Guest Surinderpal Kaur said that instead of burning the crop residues, farmers should come forward to use it in-situ in the field for improving the soil health and environment. Dr. R.K Sharma, Director RRTC, Talwara delivered lecture on indigenous remedies for livestock management. Dr. Meera D. Ansal, Dean College of Fisheries gave lecture on integrated fish farming a source for doubling farmers income. Dr. Udybir Singh, Head of Department, Animal Nutrition, Chief Agriculture Officer, Tarn Taran Dr. Surinder Singh & Dr. Bhupinder Singh Agriculture Officer, Patti were also present along with their team. Progressive farmers who buried the paddy straw in their fields and got good wheat crop returns also shared their experiences with the other farmers at this event. Scientists from KVK, Amritsar, FASC, USF, Usman, Tarn Taran PAU Dr. Parwinder Singh & Dr. Parminder Kaur gave lecture on vegetables and management of insect-pest in Kharif crop. On this occasion, literature on crop residue management, Integrated Farming System & millets were released by the dignitaries. Various experts from GADVASU, PAU and allied departments educated the farmers on managing the straw in their fields. The crop residue machinery as well as seed, Self Help Group, FPO stalls were put up in plenty for exhibiting the farmers at the mela.
